Marcos Maidana knows that many will say he's fighting Floyd Mayweather for money before achievement, since it's going to be a career-high payday in one of the biggest fights of 2014 against the No.
1 fighter in the world both pound-for-pound and dollar-for-dollar, but Maidana says he's genuinely coming to win on May 3: "A lot of people think I'm going to the United States for the purse money. But I am going for the title and glory. I know I am going to win. I have all the desire to defeat Mayweather to make boxing history. I watched a lot of Mayweather fights looking for his mistakes, although he rarely makes them. He is smart and dirty. I will have to be as well." Maidana (35-3, 31 KO) has been counted out in the past, notably against Adrien Broner and Victor Ortiz, but those guys are not Mayweather (45-0, 26 KO). He also has legitimate losses to Amir Khan and Devon Alexander, two fighters who had significant advantages in speed and craft, as well as a debatable 2009 road loss in Germany to Andriy Kotelnik, a sound technician. But Maidana has always come to fight, too, and it's hard to imagine him giving less than maximum effort on May 3. Even if that just serves to make Mayweather look more spectacular, he's going to show up to fight.
