With less than 7 weeks to go before undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather makes his return to the ring to face WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana on May 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the undercard is still being finalized for what is considered to be one of the biggest boxing events of the year. Though no official announcements have been made, FightHype.com can address some of the rumors regarding the supporting bouts.

First and foremost, sources have already confirmed to us that former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan will indeed be facing former welterweight champion Luis Collazo in a bout that will likely be featured as the co-main event. We're told that the official announcement of the fight, which will likely be made by Amir Khan himself during a press conference in the UK, is on hold simply to allow Team Khan time to finalize an agreement to sign with influential adviser Al Haymon.

Furthermore, fans can also expect former welterweight champion Adrien Broner to make his debut in the 140-pound division on the card. Though his opponent is unclear at this time, FightHype.com originally received word that top lightweight contender John Molina Jr. was first being considered, but now we're told that it's looking more and more like it will be jr. welterweight Carlos Molina instead. While they share the same last name, the difference between the two Molinas is significant. Though John Molina is 3-2 in his last 5 fights, the hard-hitting California native is on 2-fight knockout streak, one of which being a come-from-behind stoppage of highly-touted Mayweather Promotions fighter Mickey Bey. Carlos Molina, on the other hand, is not known for being a big puncher and hasn't fought since being stopped in the 10th round by Amir Khan back in December of 2012.

Rounding out the televised portion of the pay-per-view card will likely be the super middleweight showdown between J'Leon Love and Marco Antonio Periban, who is ranked #3 by the WBC. Though Love himself is not currently ranked by the WBC, a victory over Periban would no doubt catapult him into a position justifying a future fight with WBC champion and fellow Haymon stablemate Sakio Bika.

Fans can expect the non-televised portion of the undercard to feature several rising Mayweather Promotions fighters in showcasing bouts. Based on previous Mayweather events, I wouldn't be surprised to see any one of the remaining openings filled by jr. middleweight Chris Pearson (11-0, 9 KOs), super middleweight Luis Arias (9-0, 4 KOs), super middleweight Ronald Gavril (8-0, 6 KOs), cruiserweight Andrew Tabiti (5-0, 5 KOs) or possibly super middleweight Lanell Bellows (6-1-1, 5 KOs). Keep in mind that Mayweather Promotions will also be putting on a card the night before, on May 2, headlined by a jr. middleweight title clash between WBA champion Erislandy Lara and former champion Ishe Smith. Sources tell us that the co-main event of that card will feature lightweight contender Mickey Bey challenging for his first world title. That being said, whichever Mayweather Promotions fighters don't make it onto the May 3 card, chances are, you'll find some of them fighting on this card.

For pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr., there's no place like home.

Although there was strong competition from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., to host Mayweather's fight with fellow welterweight titlist Marcos Maidana on May 3 (Showtime PPV), the MGM Grand in Las Vegas won out and will host one of the year's biggest fights.

Mayweather, who lives in Las Vegas, just minutes from the arena that has become his fighting home, tweeted the news on Wednesday.

Although the fight between Mayweather and Maidana was announced on Feb. 24, no site was included in the announcement. That was because the Barclays Center was trying to wrest the bout away from the MGM Grand.

Golden Boy Promotions, which has promoted all of Mayweather's fights since 2007, has an exclusive deal with the Barclays Center to put on regular boxing cards there and the arena wanted Mayweather.

However, the MGM Grand -- which Mayweather once said stood for "Mayweather Gets Money," since it has been site of his massive paydays -- won.

"Floyd has a very close relationship with Las Vegas and I do as well," Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com. "We have done all the big pay-per-views out of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. I believe that if you built the perfect venue for pay-per-view, it would be the MGM Grand. Everything is there for us, the arena, the media is all the there, the fans are all there. It becomes fight central. There is a festive atmosphere. That is all important to Floyd.

"He wants his events to be treated like the Super Bowl of boxing and he feels like the MGM Grand is the right place."

Mayweather will be fighting at the MGM Grand for the ninth consecutive time dating to his record-breaking junior middleweight title fight with Oscar De La Hoya in 2007, which sold an all-time pay-per-view record 2.4 million units. Mayweather-Maidana will also be Mayweather's 11th fight in a row in Las Vegas, including bouts at Mandalay Bay and the Thomas & Mack Center, and his 12th overall at the MGM Grand.

Schaefer said Barclays went after the fight hard.

"The Barclays Center is a terrific venue and has established itself on the East Coast as the place for boxing," Schaefer said. "The ownership is committed to boxing and (arena chief executive) Brett Yormark is committed to boxing. They were not only very interested in hosting a Mayweather fight, they were very aggressive in pursuing it as well, and wanted to bring this fight to New York. (The region) had the NFL Super Bowl and they also wanted to bring the Super Bowl of boxing to New York.

"They put together an unbelievable marketing proposal but when it was said and done the decision was to stay in Las Vegas. Floyd is very loyal to his people and his partners. The MGM is obviously happy because they know the kind of economic impact Floyd's fights have on the casino and the whole city."

Since there is no state income tax in Nevada -- and there is in New York -- Mayweather will save millions in taxes, although it is unclear if part of the Barclays Center proposal was a guarantee that would have offset Mayweather's tax liability.

Mayweather vs Maidana: Marcos Maidana says he's{{{ fighting }}}}to win, not for money

Marcos Maidana says it's not about the money against Floyd Mayweather, it's about the glory. Adrien Broner v Marcos Maidana Marcos Maidana knows that many will say he's fighting Floyd Mayweather for money before achievement, since it's going to be a career-high payday in one of the biggest fights of 2014 against the No.

1 fighter in the world both pound-for-pound and dollar-for-dollar, but Maidana says he's genuinely coming to win on May 3: "A lot of people think I'm going to the United States for the purse money. But I am going for the title and glory. I know I am going to win. I have all the desire to defeat Mayweather to make boxing history. I watched a lot of Mayweather fights looking for his mistakes, although he rarely makes them. He is smart and dirty. I will have to be as well." Maidana (35-3, 31 KO) has been counted out in the past, notably against Adrien Broner and Victor Ortiz, but those guys are not Mayweather (45-0, 26 KO). He also has legitimate losses to Amir Khan and Devon Alexander, two fighters who had significant advantages in speed and craft, as well as a debatable 2009 road loss in Germany to Andriy Kotelnik, a sound technician. But Maidana has always come to fight, too, and it's hard to imagine him giving less than maximum effort on May 3. Even if that just serves to make Mayweather look more spectacular, he's going to show up to fight.

Does!! Maidana have more than a puncher’s chance!! against {{{{Mayweather Jr}}}}

ByM. Malik: There is no doubt that{{{{ WBA}}}} welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) is probably the most deserving of the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. I(45-0, 26 KO’s) at the moment. Certainly more than Amir Khan, even though styles make fights, and I think Khan would give Floyd more problems. But Maidana did it the hard way and earned his shot against Mayweather Jr. Let’s look at Maidana’s last few opponents since his loss to Devon Alexander. He fought Jesus Soto Karass, Martin Martinez, Josesito Lopez, and Adrien Broner. He won all bouts via TKO or KO except for his fight against Adrien Broner. We all know what happened in that fight. Broner was knocked down twice, and the referee came very close to stopping the fight in the second round. Read more at http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/04/does-maidana-have-more-than-a-punchers-chance-against-mayweather-jr/#uxMUMBPW9fYJtGlC.99 manny-pacquiao1 Anyone who has been following Maidana’s career knows that he has become a different fighter since hiring Robert Garcia as his coach. He is using his jab a lot more, his head movement has gotten better, and he is quicker on his feet. With all said, how much chance should one give him against Mayweather Jr.?

I must say that I don’t think he has more than a puncher’s chance. Just look at what happened to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez -who is bigger, stronger and much quicker than Maidana. It is only safe to say that Floyd shouldn’t have any trouble dismantling Maidana. I am expecting a knock out win for Floyd, and it’s been 6 and a half year since his last TKO win against Ricky Hatton, unless off course you see his( (KO)) win against Victor Ortiz as a real KO. The truth is that many of us would like to see Floyd lose, or at the very least, struggle against someone for a change. Only fighter who has given him any trouble in recent times is {{Miguel Cotto}}. Even though Floyd clearly won that fight, Miguel Cotto was the only fighter in recent memory to land few good shots and possibly win a few rounds against Floyd. Boxing is a business, and even though Amir Khan has done nothing spectacular in the last couple of years; his popularity and a large fan base had made him a viable candidate for a fight against Floyd. As I’ve said before, Amir Khan could make it interesting for the first couple of rounds, but then Floyd will surely figure him out. So, does anyone out there have more than a punchers’ chance against Floyd? It is almost impossible to suggest candidates for a fight against Floyd and not mention Manny Pacquiao. I think that fight should have taken place between: 2009-2010. I don’t think Manny is the same fighter anymore, and Floyd wins quite comfortably. I would rather see someone like Keith Thurman get a chance even though he has yet to beat an elite fighter. He can move, box and has a one punch knockout power. But he is still building his fan base, and I am not sure if Golden Boy will be able to generate enough interest for a fight between Keith Thurman and Floyd before his (Mayweather Jr.) retirement. I would also love to see Genneday Golovkin come down to 154 and fight Floyd. I would give him the best chance out of all the fighters. Even though one can argue that he has yet to face and beat an elite fighter. I still think that he presents the toughest challenge for Floyd. Golovkin (GGG) fights on HBO and Floyd obviously fights on Showtime. Therefore, the rivalry between Showtime and HBO would certainly prevent the fight from taking place. The question remains: Does Floyd Mayweather Jr. simply cruises to 49-0, or will we see someone hand Mayweather Jr. an “L” before he hangs up his gloves? No bout: Floyd Mayweather and Amir Khan

Floyd Mayweather will fight Marcos Maidana in a welterweight unification contest on May 3, ending Brit Amir Khan's hopes of being the WBC champion's next opponent.
Khan, 27, signed a contract in December that he had hoped would set him up for a possible super-fight with Mayweather this year but finally admitted on Twitter last week that he did not think the fight would take place.

And now promoters Golden Boy and Mayweather Promotions have confirmed that the 37-year-old will face Argentinian WBA champion Maidana instead.
"After weeks of speculation, including feedback from fans across an array of social media platforms, boxing's pound-for-pound superstar, pay-per-view king and WBC Welterweight World Champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather will face the dangerous, power-punching WBA Welterweight World Champion Marcos "El Chino" Maidana on Saturday, May 3," read the statement.
Undefeated Mayweather (45-0) launched a social media campaign earlier this month asking fans to decide which of the two men he should take on in his next bout.
"Marcos Maidana's last performance immediately brought him to my attention," said Mayweather.
"He is an extremely skilled fighter who brings knockout danger to the ring.
"I think this is a great fight for me and he deserves the opportunity to see if he can do what 45 others have tried to do before him - beat me."

Maidana (35-3), who lost to Khan in 2010, claimed the WBA belt in December with an impressive win over the previously unbeaten Adrien Broner and is confident he can dismantle another perfect record against Mayweather.

"I am extremely happy to be facing Floyd Mayweather because it will give me the opportunity to show the world that I am the best welterweight in the division," he said.
"I just handed a great defensive fighter his first loss and I plan to do the same to Mayweather. I don't care whether he's the best and undefeated."
Missing out on the Mayweather fight will come as a blow to Khan who had been holding out for a lucrative clash with the pound-for-pound number one since suffering a scare in his last fight against Julio Diaz in Sheffield last April.
The Bolton fighter had been in line to face Devon Alexander for the IBF title on December 7 but suggested on Twitter on Friday that he had delayed that for the chance to take on the Michigan native.
"No response from Mayweather or his team. Fights not happening. I should of taken the title fight last December against Alexander," he said.
"Very disrespected by his team. Wasted my time.
"Good luck to Maidana, against mayweather."
